The Queen of Veins

Dr. Claudia Rios has long been considered the Queen of Veins for her international reputation and incredible results with spider and varicose vein treatment.  For over a decade, she was at the world-renowned Vein Treatment Center in the Upper East Side of Manhattan where she honed her incredible skill for spider vein treatment.  In 2021, she started her vein clinic  in Midtown Manhattan where she provides minimally invasive vein treatments and cryo-sclerotherapy.

Cryo-Sclerotherapy

Dr. Claudia Rios is a pioneer for utilizing cryotherapy in combination with sclerotherapy.  Sclerotherapy provides the most effective method for spider vein treatment, however some patients can have a heightened anxiety with needles.  Cryosclerotherapy is a measure to enhance patient comfort and decrease anxiety with sclerotherapy treatment. The whole procedure is done using a cryo unit that produces a continuous flow of cold air to the sites of application of sclerotherapy injections. The result is the cold air anesthetizes the skin so the treatment is relatively painless. Additionally, the application of cold air and refrigerated sclerotherapy solution enhances our results by cold vasoconstriction of the targeted vessels.

Humanitarian Missions

Since 2003, the HHPF has offered vein care as part of its service learning trip to provide needed medical care to the underserved people of Honduras.  Dr. Claudia Rios has been on the mission twice and most recently in 2023 with our lead ultrasound technician, Suzan Chaghlil.

The HHPF runs Vein Sclerotherapy clinic sites in three Honduran cities: LaCeiba, Tela, and Olanchito. Our group joins in transforming churches and a Red Cross building into top-quality patient care facilities.

The typical clinic workday starts with a breakfast meeting at 7 a.m. followed by a short group walk to the clinic to see patients starting at 8 a.m. until 5 pm. Patients are registered and triaged based on the severity of their symptoms with the help of people from local organizations like the Red Cross. The vein clinic will run for one week, Monday thru Friday. The goal is to see every patient that comes looking for care.

The people of Honduras always welcome us with open arms and are very appreciative of the treatments that we provide. With limited access to healthcare facilities or medical resources, there is a great need for this mission trip.

During every trip, we have the opportunity to learn from other healthcare professionals with different cultures and backgrounds, making this trip a unique experience. We form long-lasting friendships and gain a sense of purpose and fulfillment.  In 2024, both Dr. Rios and Suzan have been invited again to join the trip and will be part of a new team bringing expertise and resources to the region.

Medical Mission For Vein Treatment

Varicose Vein Treatments in Midtown

At our NYC Vein Treatment offices, we specialize in state-of-the-art, minimally invasive treatments using the latest technologies to treat your vein problems. Whether you want to clear away unsightly spider veins or treat your leg pain or heaviness, we have placed the best tools in the hands of the most capable vein specialists in NYC. With our patient-centered approach, we always take your individual needs into consideration first and foremost.

We pride ourselves on offering only the most cutting-edge, minimally invasive techniques for treating varicose veins and spider veins. These methods use tiny punctures and catheter-based treatments rather than open incisions used in invasive procedures. The average time to complete a procedure is 30 minutes or less, getting you back on your feet in no time. Recovery time is in days, not weeks.

We offer several treatment options at our Midtown clinic to correct abnormal vein conditions. Your vein specialist will work with you to determine which option is best suited to your cosmetic and vein health goals.

Sclerotherapy

For small spider veins (or telangiectasias), our physicians use liquid sclerotherapy. This method uses tiny needles to inject a sclerosing agent directly into the spider veins.  The medication irritates the targeted vessels, causing them to collapse. With time, the body reabsorbs the treated veins.  Most patients require two to four separate sessions of sclerotherapy for desired results.

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is the gold standard treating underlying venous insufficiency.  The usual target is a saphenous vein that demonstrates abnormal flow on an ultrasound and leads to varicose veins.  It is a medical technique intended to relieve symptoms of vein disease and improve venous circulation in the legs.  The treatment is minimally-invasive and with proper expertise can be performed directly in the office with local anesthesia only.

VenaSeal™

An alternative to RFA ablation, VenaSeal is also a catheter based technique that uses a medial adhesive to close the targeted saphenous veins.  It is an FDA-approved method for treating varicose veins that does not use lasers, heat, or other chemicals. At our vein centers, VenaSeal is used in select cases only based on our experience.

Foam Sclerotherapy

Foam sclerotherapy uses polidocanol endovenous microfoam (PEM) in higher concentrations to target large varicosities. The sclerosant is delivered in a foam consistency to treat varicose veins.  In our clinic, foam sclerotherapy is used in combination with RFA ablation for the best results.  It is also a useful medication to treat recurrent vein disease when RFA is not suitable.

Phlebectomy

Sometimes, the best way to remove large bulky varicose veins is not to inject them but to remove them. It is still a minimally-invasive procedure and far different than vein stripping.  The procedure can be done in the office or surgical center using local anesthetic.  Phlebectomy involves removing problem veins using a small hook inserted through tiny punctures in your skin. The advantage of phlebectomy is the ability to achieve rapid resolution of large varicose veins.

Comprehensive Vein Treatment in Midtown

Chronic venous insufficiency is a medical condition associated with symptoms from spider veins and varicose veins. It’s a vascular condition that results from the weakening of the valves in our leg veins. As a results, blood pools in the legs leading to increased venous pressure. Over time, the pressure builds and individuals can develop spider veins and varicose veins, along with symptoms of leg heaviness, aching, swelling and painful cramps. The symptoms are most often progressive prompting patients to seek out vein treatment.
