Most patients considering vein treatment are also curious to know “How Much Does Treatment Actually Cost?”  The short answer is, it depends…

Estimating costs for various vein treatments is not a one-size fits all approach.  There are quite a few variables including the severity of veins, insurance coverage, and individual cosmetic goals.  Most medically recommended treatments are well covered, however you might also be interested in cosmetic treatments.   The main factors that influence these costs include:

  1. How chronic and severe are the spider veins
  2. Are there bulky varicose veins
  3. Will sclerotherapy treatment be enough
  4. Is there a need for medical vein treatment
  5. Will insurance cover the medically recommended procedures
  6. What medications or injections are appropriate for treatment
  7. How many treatment  sessions will be required to achieve desired results

You will also want to consider geography, the experience and certification of the treating provider, and use of advanced equipment.  In Dobbs Ferry, the cost of treatment tends to be lower than in metropolitan areas like White Plains or Manhattan.

COMMON VEIN TREATMENTS AND COSTS

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is the most effective therapy for spider veins.  Sclerotherapy  uses very fine needles to inject a medical solution into your damaged veins.  The injected medication disrupts the lining of the targeted spider veins causing them to collapse. With time, they will fade and be reabsorbed by the body.

Most individuals need two to four sessions for a complete response in the desired area.

What is the cost of Sclerotherapy Near Dobbs Ferry?

Sclerotherapy has indications in both cosmetic treatments and medical treatments.  Cosmetic treatments are not covered by insurance, however only your doctor can decide if medical treatments are necessary.

The average cosmetic sclerotherapy session in Westchester County NY costs $400 to $1200. At our clinic, we utilize Asclera (the only FDA approved medication for treating spider veins with sclerotherapy).  Compounded medications with generic polidocanol are not equivalent and unregulated by the FDA.   For these reasons, some clinics may offer lower costs utilizing non-FDA approved medications including generics and hypertonic saline.   Our price is currently $500 for a full treatment session.

What is the cost of Varicose Vein Removal in Dobbs Ferry?

Symptomatic varicose veins are often appropriate insurance coverage.  Typical symptoms include sore legs, leg swelling, leg cramps, inflammation and circulation disorders.  With symptoms, a venous ultrasound to map the anatomy of normal and abnormal veins is usually recommended.

If underlying venous insufficiency is noted by ultrasound, the gold standard for treatment is vein ablation.

Cost of Vein Ablation in Dobbs Ferry

Radiofrequency vein ablation in Dobbs Ferry (or laser vein ablation) is a minimally-invasive outpatient procedure performed by vein doctors to cure the underlying cause of varicose veins.

Insurance authorization is usually requested ahead of time to perform vein ablation. Out of pocket costs depend on individual plan deductibles and coinsurance.

Cost of Phlebectomy

Phlebectomy is a useful tool to utilize for large, bulky varicose veins on the skin not appropriate for ablation or sclerotherapy.

Phlebectomy is an outpatient surgical procedure and also covered by insurance in many cases.   Small incisions directly over the target vein are made  using simple local anesthesia.  The abnormal veins can be pulled through the skin with little risk of scarring or bleeding.   The procedure can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the severity of veins.

Cost: Without insurance coverage, the cost for phlebectomy of large varicose veins ranges from $750 to $3500.

Cost of Foam Sclerotherapy

Formulated foam sclerotherapy is patented low nitrogen polidocanol 1% used to collapse large varicose veins in the upper and lower legs. This treatment can be an alternative to phlebectomy in ideal candidates.

Cost: FDA-approved and covered by most insurances with medical necessity. Out of pocket cost dependent upon insurance plan and deductible.

Cost of Vein Glue in Dobbs Ferry

The most recent technological advancement in the treatment of varicose vein disease has been VenaSeal™. This closure system is the only non-thermal, non-tumescent, non-sclerosant procedure approved for use in the U.S.  The procedure uses a catheter to target venous insufficiency in saphenous veins with a medical adhesive to fuse the vein closed.

Cost: Mostly used as a medical treatment and is covered by Medicare and very select commercial insurances.
